Current Day Soaps.
There are 5 big soap operas on our screens at present. BBC has its flagship programme, Eastenders, while ITV has Coronation Street and Emmerdale. Channel 4 boasts the newest soap with Hollyoaks, while channel 5 now has BBC’s cast off, the Australian soap Neighbours. Eastenders and Coronation Street are regarded as the two most popular soaps, with Hollyoaks pulling in the younger audience and Emmerdale appealing to the older audience. The following 5 pages are dedicated to each soap, where I will look a bit more in depth at why they are as popular and iconic as they are, and how they all started.
